Visit to Valldemossa
Valldemossa is a Majorcan municipality located in the Sierra Tramuntana. It is famous the world over from the George Sand novel, "A Winter in Majorca". The Royal Monastery of Valldemossa must be mentioned. It is a fourteenth-century monastery and the former home of Geoge Sand and Frederic Chopin during their stay on the island.
The visit begins with its stone Church and an image of Santa Catalina Tomas on its altar. Entering into the former cloister, there is a pharmacy and gardens where it is common to see exhibitions from artists in residence or the cells where the monks lived.
Crossing the Plaza de la Cartuja, you can enter the Palace of King Sancho, the oldest part of the monastery and the largest demonstration of splendid paintings and Majorcan furniture which has lodged illustrious visitors such as the poet Ruben Dario.
Once outside the monastery, you can enjoy a walk through its steep flowerpot-lined streets, a perfect scenario to lose yourself in the moment and enjoy the "potato coca" along with the traditional almond horchata. Other attractions are the "Miranda des Lladroners" a lookout from which you can get a glimpse of the island's capital, S'Estret gorge or the former residence of Archduke Luis Salvador de Austria.
