Route by car to rent for the Mar Menor
Visit El Mar Menor
El Mar Menor is a salt water lake, the biggest in Europe, divided from the Mediterranean Sea by La Manga del Mar Menor, a narrow piece of sand and volcanic rocks slightly over 20 kilometers long and 2 kilometers in its widest point, located between Punta del Mojón and Cabo de Palos.
It is possible to enjoy "La Manga" throughout the year thanks to its climate and unbeatable tourist infrastructure. Since it is located between two seas it is an ideal place to practice water sports and take advantage of the Sailing Station of the Mar Menor.
Only one of its islands can be visited, the island of Perdiguera, with daily tourists trips leaving La Manga towards it. The islans of La Mayor or Barón are privately owned, and the other three, Ciervo, Redonda and Sujeto are part of a Nature Reserve.
Along the coast of El Mar Menor we can find several tourist towns like San Pedro del Pinatar, to the South of the Natural Park of Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar, Santiago de la Rivera, San Javier or El Cabo de Palos, old fishing village were you can now enjoy a visit to the Marina, the Lighthouse, its "cauldron of El Mar Menor" or its Marine Reserve of Cabo de Palos e Islas Hormigas were you can dive. If you are an expert diver you can see the Sirio wreck, an italian steamer which sank in front of the coast of Cartagena in 1906.
