Rental car route along the Archena and Caravaca de la Cruz
Visit Archena and Caravaca de la Cruz
Crossed by the River Segura and opening the Ricote Valley you will find the village of Archena, famous by the quality of its thermal waters, which even the Romans knew and which you can enjoy in the Spa of the Sanctuary of the Virgen de la Salud.
70 kilometres away, close to the Castle built by The Order of the Temple in the 15th century, and close to the frontier between Murcia and Granada you will find the city of Caravaca de la Cruz. The name of the city comes from The Holy and True Cross of Caravaca, the fragment of the cross were Jesus was crucified. The relic is kept in the Sanctuary of Vera Cruz, a barroque church with Latin-cross floor plan and an impressive façade in red marble.
Caravaca is one of the five Saint cities declared by Christianity and it celebrates the Jubilee Year since 1998. This allows the city to celebrate the Perpetual Jubilee in the Sanctuary, which also has a large collection in its Holy Art and History Museum.
Other treasures of the city are the churches of La Soledad converted into an Archaeological Museum, La Purísima Concepción or The Temple of the Holy Cross where every year takes place the celebration of the Wine Horses as part of the fiestas in Honour of the Holy and True Cross.
