Eating in Cabo de Gata, a unique experience

If you are thinking of taking a break in Spain, a great plan to enjoy a few relaxing days is in Cabo de Gata. This beautiful region of Almeria has all the ingredients to make the most out of your holiday break.

Enjoy one of the many hiking routes, take a horseback ride on the beach front, have a bite to eat at one of the beach bars or be taken back by the beauty of the ‘Mirador de las Sirenas’ (Mermaid Reef) or the ‘Mirador de Amatista’ (Amatista viewpoint). These are just some of the places you must visit in Cabo de Gata. However, no journey is complete without delighting your palate and that is why we have prepared our most recommend restaurants in Cabo de Gata.

We start our route with our hire car and reach the fishing village of San José, stroll through its bohemian streets with its white houses built amongst the mountains that overlook the coast and enjoy some of the best beaches in Cabo de Gata; the ‘Genoveses’, ‘Mónsul’ or San José beaches await. We recommend a visit the ‘4 Nudos’ restaurant or the San José Nautical Club that specialise in rice and seafood. Here you can enjoy a tasty dish of rice with octopus and clams before continuing our journey.

We continue our journey to the Cabo de Gata lighthouse, where we can look out to sea to enjoy the beauty of the ‘Arrecife de las Sirenas’ (Mermaid Reef) one of the most emblematic landscapes in Almeria and all of Spain. The reef formations that rise above the water level are ancient volcanic chimneys. If you enjoy snorkelling, then get your equipment out and enjoy the wonderful marine life. Although this area of the ‘Acantilado de las Sirenas’ attracts thousands of tourists every year, there are not many places where you can get something to eat, but you can have a meal at the nearby ‘El Faro’ restaurant with incredible views of the Almeria coast.

Our last stop in this beautiful area of Almeria are the beaches on the San Miguel promenade. There is nothing like having some tapas or a cold beer whilst enjoying the amazing sea views at the ‘Errante del Cabo’. You can also visit ‘La Goleta’ Restaurant to taste the authentic Mediterranean cuisine. Try their famous squid, or the exquisite varieties of fish from the region.
