The Costa del Sol is the coastline of the province of Malaga in Andalucia, southern
Spain. There is a surfeit of hypothesis concerning the origin of its name, although
the most popular theory is that it was an Austrian consul who started to call it
as such, given its pleasant climate and year-round sunshine.
Malaga airport is a superb international connection and, in general,
the province is highly accessibly from within Spain or abroad.
The city of Malaga was founded by the Phoenicians, who migrated there because of
a strong export industry involving metals. From here on, it was a settlement for
Romans, Germanics and Muslims, all thanks to its strategic location close to the
Strait of Gibraltar and North Africa. In each of the towns that make up this province,
its wealth of history is visible at every step and is faithfully represented by
its many museums.
